Harmony Valley Farm LLC Waterway Withdrawal Irrigation Permit Application - Vernon County
Date: 04/11/2023
Time: 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Location: Virtual
Weston Matthews, Weston.Matthews@wisconsin.gov or 715-460-4089
Harmony Valley Farm LLC, acting as an agent for the riparian landowner Soterios and Nancy Lallas Trust, has applied to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) for a permit to divert a maximum of 50 gallons per minute from Cox Creek, a trout stream, up to ten times per year between May 15 and September 15 of each year for the purpose of irrigating vegetables. The project is proposing to use the water to irrigate up to 10 acres located on the Lallas property using a combination of drip tape, sprinklers, and an intake structure consisting of a moveable 4-inch by 25-foot suction hose that has a one-way foot valve on the river end with a mesh screen to prevent gravel, plant material or fauna from entering the irrigation system with the water.
The hearing provides an opportunity for the applicant and the DNR to gather additional facts to help gauge the possible environmental impacts of the proposed project. The hearing is informational only. DNR staff will manage the hearing agenda according to set procedures to allow all who attend a chance to be heard and to gather as much factual information as possible.
The DNR scheduled a public hearing on this activity or project because it determined there was a significant public interest in holding a hearing. The hearing will be a public informational hearing where the public can learn more about the proposed activity and submit written or oral comments about the waterway and project.
If you would like to know more about this project or would like to see the application and plans, please visit the DNR permit tracking website and search for WP-IP-WC-2021-63-X04-27T17-00-09.
