New DNR Fishing Tournament Registration Requirement Takes Effect April 1
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) announced today that fishing tournaments that are statewide or regional in nature, seasonal without specific fishing dates or that have fewer than 20 boats or 100 participants will be required to register with the DNR starting April 1. Registration of these tournaments will be free of charge.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds Wisconsinites of the protected tribal right to fish in certain Wisconsin waterways and the legal consequences they could face if found interfering with that right during the upcoming Ojibwe spring fishing season.
Wisconsin DNR Update On WMC And Leather Rich, Inc V. DNR
On March 6, 2024, Dist. II Court of Appeals issued an opinion in WMC and Leather Rich, Inc. v. DNR, affirming a circuit court ruling regarding DNR’s authority to regulate “emerging contaminants” (including PFAS compounds) as hazardous substances under the Spills Law. The department will be petitioning for review by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
