Things to Do
Take a walk up to the Ice Age Visitor Center and you will walk across part of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail! The Visitor Center includes an exhibit area, classroom, auditorium and gift shop. A deck is attached to the back and overlooks the river valley below. Some of the exhibits include grindstones formed by glacial meltwater, mammoth molars and a skull replica of an ancient bison found in the park.
Visitors also have the option to view a 24-minute video in the auditorium. The film, Mammoths and Moraines, describes glacial formations that can be seen along the Ice Age Trail. This includes Interstate Park’s famous glacial potholes and the trail’s western terminus located a half-mile from the Visitor Center.
Many naturalist activities take place at the Visitor Center year-round from a bluebird workshop in the spring to a wild rice demonstration in the fall. The Visitor Center is also a great spot to warm up in the winter—especially during our annual Candlelight Night.
