RR Sites Map
Web-mapping App Updates:
What’s new with DNR’s web-mapping applications?
We are excited to announce that the DNR’s web mapping applications have been upgraded with more secure and modern technology! While the design may look different, the functionality you rely on remains the same.
For best results, use up-to-date devices, operating systems and internet browsers. If you are having difficulty viewing or interacting with a DNR web-map, try these web browser tips.
The RR Sites Map is the DNR's web-based mapping system for information about contaminated properties and other activities related to investigating and cleaning contaminated soil and groundwater in Wisconsin. It is part of the DNR's Wisconsin Remediation and Redevelopment Database (WRRD), an interlinked system for contaminated land activities.
- Overview
-
The RR Sites Map application allows users to view locations of contaminated properties and other remediation and redevelopment activities in Wisconsin using a desktop, tablet or smartphone.
The RR Sites Map enables users to view locations of activities such as:
- Locations with known contamination in the environment.
- Completed and ongoing environmental investigations and cleanups.
- Locations where continuing obligations [PDF] related to remaining contamination are in place to protect public health and the environment.
- Cleanup of sites under the federal Superfund (CERCLA) statute.
- Properties where the DNR has provided clarification on liability related to environmental contamination.
- Sites that received DNR funding assistance (e.g., brownfields grants).
- The location of landfills/waste sites.
The RR Sites Map links to a publicly accessible database, the Bureau for Remediation and Redevelopment Tracking System (BRRTS), through BRRTS on the web (BOTW). The database contains activity information and available related documents.
- Map Layers
-
The RR Sites Map offers several themes and layers. Detailed layer information is available on the RR Sites Map Layer Information webpage.
- User Tips

The complete RR Sites Map application is available on a desktop device, and a simplified version is available for mobile devices. However, not all features below are available on the mobile application.

The RR Sites Map does not include:
- Hazardous substance "spills" that were immediately contained or cleaned up, and no cleanup case was opened.
- Activities that are not yet mapped.
- Locations with remaining soil contamination above residual contaminant levels (chapter NR 720, Wis. Adm. Code) for cleanups completed before August 1, 2002.
