Horicon Marsh Trapping Bid Application Deadline Oct. 6
Winners Will Be Notified Oct. 13
MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds trappers that the deadline for submitting a bid for the coming season on the Horicon Marsh National Wildlife Refuge and Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area is 6 p.m. Oct. 6.
Interested trappers should use the 2021 bid form available on the DNR website here. Applications are processed through a single closed bidding process. For the 2021-22 trapping season, 21 wetland trapping units are available. Full instructions on how to submit a bid are available here.
Trappers must be at least 18 years old to bid, and a minimum bid of $25 is required per unit. Payments will be made only by successful bidders. As in previous years, trappers may bid on all trapping units, but can only win one trapping unit. If there is a tie for the highest bid, a random drawing will determine who is awarded the trapping unit. If any units are not bid on, or if there is no winning bid, those units will not be trapped during the 2021-2022 season.
Opening bids will take place 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13. Successful bidders will be notified by phone the same day. Winning bids will be posted at the Horicon Marsh Education and Visitor Center (near the drop box at the carport). Results can also be emailed upon request. Payment must be received or postmarked by 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 15.
The trapping season will follow Horicon National Wildlife Refuge and Horicon Marsh State Wildlife Area trapping regulations. Details of the 2021-2022 trapping seasons, trapped species, trapping unit maps, and general rules and considerations for both properties are available online here.
