Celebrating 80 Years Of Smokey Bear

Make Smokey Bear a birthday dessert to help celebrate 80 years of his important fire safety messages. Smokey Bear will celebrate his 80th birthday on Aug. 9, 2024, and everyone is invited to share in the celebration as part of a very special birthday dessert competition.

Birthday desserts will be judged by students with the USDA Forest Service’s Blackwell Job Corps Civil Conservation Center. Desserts will be judged on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m. during the opening reception of the display of 19 historic Smokey Bear portraits at the Pioneer Park Historical Complex in Rhinelander.

The contest ties in with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism’s 2024 theme, “Culinary.” This theme is inspired by this year’s Bravo TV season, “Top Chef Wisconsin.”
