This event is open to people new to hunting. During the classroom session, you'll meet your one-on-one hunting mentor and cover the basics of firearm safety, turkey hunting rules and regulations, turkey hunting equipment, and tips for a successful hunt. You will also pattern a shotgun at the shooting range in preparation for hunting. All instruction and equipment is provided.
Hunting:
Weekend of April 6-7, 2024
Hunting takes place at various locations in Columbia county. You'll make arrangements with your hunting mentor to meet at a designated location to hunt early in the morning on Saturday and/or Sunday (approximately 4:30 - 5 a.m..). All mentors pass a DNR background check and have at least 5 years of turkey hunting experience.
On Saturday, participants will hunt with their mentor in the morning before returning to Rio Conservation Club for lunch (provided) and story-telling. Participants may hunt all day with their mentor on Sunday if they wish.
This event is hosted by the River Valley Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.
