Prairie Wildflower and Seed Collection

CANCELED

-

Description

The session will begin with an introduction to the biology and identification of common prairie wildflowers.

Prairies once were common to southern Wisconsin but have been replaced by farmland and/or human development. Prairie plants have amazing root systems that are able to penetrate deep to reach water and cultivate amazingly fertile soils. They are also vital to the survival of pollinators, birds and small mammals.

After a brief introduction, we'll collect wildflower seeds in the adjacent Jersey Flats Prairie. You'll be able to keep these seeds in hopes that you may use them to cultivate prairie species on your own, thus replacing a small ‘slice’ of what has been lost.

Pre-registration required, along with a $10 participant fee.

Meet at the Ice Age Visitor Center, N2875 STH 67, Campbellsport WI.
