Learn to Hunt Deer – Hosted by The National Deer Association and the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman Program.
- Virtual Classroom/Q&A, Wednesday, Dec. 4, 5:30-7:30 p.m. (Zoom link will be sent when you register.)
- In-person Rifle Safety/Sight-In Day at the Delton Sportsmen’s Club, Wisconsin Dells, Saturday, Dec. 7, 9:30 a.m.- 2:00 p.m. (bring a lunch).
- Dec. 14-15, 2024, in-person mentored hunt, Adams County, Wisconsin.
The Learn to Hunt Program is a Department of Natural Resources opportunity for novice hunters to learn through classroom lessons and participate in an actual hunt with an experienced mentor. This Learn to Hunt Deer course is open to anyone 18 and older. State hunting license requirements are waived for these events.
Requirements:
- Participate in the Dec. 4 Virtual Q&A
- Completion of Hunter's Education course – free code when you register – $30 value.
- Completion of Deer Hunting 101 – free code when you register – $30 value.
The Deer Hunting 101 class will cover deer biology and habitat, hunting safety, equipment, gear and more. - Completion of Dec. 7 Rifle Safety/Sight-In Day at the shooting range.
- The payment of $50 includes the use of rifles and ammunition at the shooting range and for the hunt. Participants will take home a blaze orange hat and vest to keep.
Hunters and mentors will rendezvous at a public meeting place mid-morning on Dec. 14 to review safety, then travel to private property for an afternoon hunt. Hunting the following morning is optional for anyone who doesn’t harvest a deer on Saturday. There is a $50 registration fee. The deadline for registration is Dec. 4.
