Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staff and the Monroe County Deer Advisory Council will host a public meeting regarding the status of chronic wasting disease (CWD) and a response plan for sampling wild deer in Monroe County.
In January, two white-tailed bucks tested positive for CWD in the towns of Ridgeville and Glendale. To better understand the prevalence and distribution of the disease in Monroe County, the DNR will be sampling additional deer in the area. In partnership with County Deer Advisory Council members, DNR staff will discuss disease surveillance options in response to the detection of chronic wasting disease in Monroe County.
DNR staff will be in attendance to provide information about the results of recent local CWD testing efforts and discuss sampling goals for this coming season. The public is invited to give comment during the meeting.
More information on CWD in Wisconsin can be found on the DNR website.
