DNR New Employee Orientation Information
Employment at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
Congratulations on your upcoming position with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources! Your supervisor will discuss with you where and when you will report on your first day of work.
New Employee Orientation is held every other Monday virtually from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Employees newly eligible for Wisconsin Retirement System will be asked to review on-demand training about payroll and benefits, followed by a virtual question and answer session with Payroll & Benefits staff held the Monday of their second week.
On your first day, your supervisor or other department representative will guide you through orientation and the following tasks required on your first day and week of work. While you will be provided with the required forms, you may need to bring certain documents with you on your first day.
I-9 EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBLITY VERIFICATION
Section 1 of the I-9 form must be completed on the first day of your appointment and the required documents must be presented in person to your supervisor or representative within three days of your appointment start date. These documents must be original and unexpired — copies cannot be accepted.
For the full list of acceptable work authorization and government issued photo identification documents, review page 3 of the Form I-9 [exit DNR].
EMPLOYEE TAX WITHHOLDING
You will be required to complete federal and state tax withholding forms on your first day, most employees will do so electronically. You may review these forms and the corresponding worksheets prior to orientation. Returning employees should review and submit new withholdings.
DIRECT DEPOSIT
The department requires all employees to enroll in direct deposit. Most employees can manage their accounts online in PeopleSoft Employee Self-Service. Be sure to have your bank routing and account numbers available.
NEW EMPLOYEE BENEFITS
State of Wisconsin employees may be eligible for a variety of benefits. These benefits can be reviewed at Wisconsin Department of Employee Trust Funds [exit DNR]. If you are uncertain whether you’re eligible, contact Payroll.
