High above the rivers and communities below, Wyalusing State Park’s Lawrence L. Huser Astronomy Center offers an ideal place in southwest Wisconsin for viewing the night sky. Located about a hundred yards past the park office, this observatory houses several high-powered telescopes, including one within a “steerable” dome. The center is operated by the StarSplitters Astronomy Club, a local non-profit group of amateur astronomers. The StarSplitters provide regular free public astronomy programs, arranged school viewings and real telescope viewing experiences for anyone interested in the wonders of the universe.

The center is dedicated to Lawrence Huser who was first hired in 1952 and worked for 30 years as a devoted park ranger at Wyalusing State Park.

Astronomy programs

The StarSplitters present astronomy programs from May through October. These programs are free to the public. The StarSplitters also present programs for schools or other organized groups by request. See the StarSplitters Astronomy Club website [exit DNR] for more information and program schedules.
