Snowmobiles and ATVs
Willow Flowage Scenic Waters Area
Motorized trails are well established on the Willow Flowage, providing about 8 miles of ATV/UTV trails and an additional 12 miles of routes. These trails and routes largely connect to adjoining trails and routes creating an impressive regional trail network for the area. In winter most ATV/UTV trails and routes become snowmobile trails. There are an additional 9 miles of snowmobile-only trails on the property. The opening and closing of ATV/UTV and snowmobile trails are determined by the Oneida County Forestry Department. Typically ATV/UTV trails open the Friday before Memorial Day and close on November 30, but please check with Oneida County for exact dates.
Snowmobiles and ATVs are allowed on the ice, but use caution. Before venturing onto the ice, be sure conditions are safe and be certain you know where you are going. Some areas are hazardous throughout the winter because of water currents and fluctuating water levels, which can create uneven and unsafe conditions.
All motorized vehicles, including snowmobiles and ATVs, are prohibited from driving along any shoreline of the flowage whether located above or below the ordinary high-water mark.
Parking: The Prairie Rapids parking lot is a 15-stall gravel parking lot available year-round that can accommodate truck and trailer parking for ATV/snowmobile users. The parking lot is plowed in winter and is located on the south end of the property in Nokomis Township; the address is 2546 Peaceful Lane, Tomahawk, WI 54487. Other smaller ATV parking areas exist on the property along Iron Gate Road (two areas), West Side Firelane and Manhardt Road, and are shown on the Willow Flowage map:
