Brule River State Forest
The Stoney Hill Nature Trail
The 1.7-mile self-guided Stoney Hill Nature trail loop begins at the Bois Brule Campground. Displays interpret the natural and cultural history of the forest. Sections of the trail are steep, but a rest stop and overlook at the top of Stony Hill provides an enjoyable break, with a breathtaking view of the Brule River Valley. Pets are not permitted on the nature trail.

Historic Bayfield Road Hiking and Snowshoe Trail
The Historical Bayfield Road hiking and snowshoe trail is a 2.25-mile loop starting at a parking lot off Clevedon Road. The trail follows the first road between Superior and Bayfield, originally built in 1870, before looping back up Sugar Camp Hill. This trail has a connecting trail that leads to the Copper Range Campground.

North Country Scenic Trail
The North Country Scenic Trail winds through the forest for 16 miles as it makes its way from North Dakota to New York. It travels through many different ecosystem types and offers scenic views. Hikers can access the trail from multiple locations, including the Gaylord Nelson trailhead located 8 miles south of Brule along State Highway 27. Other trailheads are at Samples Road, Highway S and at the north end of Lake St. Croix on County Highway A.

Brule-St. Croix Portage Trail
The Brule-St. Croix portage trail is 1.9 miles in length and dates back to the voyageurs who used the trail to travel from Lake Superior to the Mississippi River via the St. Croix. Offers an opportunity to see the headwaters of the Bois Brule River. It is part of the North Country Trail. Parking is available at the St. Croix Picnic Area off Co. Hwy. A.
