Washington Creek Wildlife Area
Washington Creek Wildlife Area is a 515-acre property, including approximately 230 acres of flowage and associated wetland, located in south-central Rusk County, approximately 9 miles south of Bruce. From County Highway D near the Rusk/Chippewa county line, take County E north 2.5 miles. From the north on Highway 8 near Bruce, take County Highway E south approximately 9 miles. Habitat consists of shallow impoundment with associated matrix of cattail, sedge and floating bog. Surrounding uplands of mixed aspen and oak. Recent improvements are redirecting uplands adjacent to the flowage as an oak-savanna type to benefit nesting waterfowl.
Management Objectives
Established in 1955, the area was developed for and is managed as a waterfowl production area. A low head dam was constructed in 1957.
