Sampson Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area is a 38-acre property in Barron County. Find it 3 miles north of Barron on Highway 25, turn east on 17th Avenue and go 3 miles. The property is on the north side of the road.

This property consists mostly of cattail marsh surrounded by prairie. Even though this property is on the smaller side, it still provides for great pheasant hunting and wildlife viewing. This area is ideal for visitors who are looking for a place close to town and go for an easy hike with their dog. Canada geese and other waterfowl can regularly be seen using the small ponds and deer are found hiding in the prairie grass or cattails.

Management Objectives

Sampson Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area was purchased through the Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area program. Prairie grasses were planted on the adjacent fields. These fields are periodically mowed to maintain waterfowl and upland bird nesting habitat.
