Lundy Pond Wildlife Area
Lundy Pond Wildlife Area is a 35-acre property in northern St. Croix County. The property was purchased in 1973 to protect the large shallow lake wetland (35 acres) found on the property. The wildlife area is surrounded by restored prairie and oak savanna habitats providing excellent recreational opportunities for hunting, trapping and wildlife watching. The property is embedded in an 804-acre grassland complex of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's Lundy Waterfowl Production Areas and is managed as part of the Western Prairie Habitat Restoration Area.
The property is located 2 miles south of New Richmond. Follow Highway 65 south out of New Richmond, then take County Highway G west 1 mile, and go south 1/2 mile on 120th Street. An access easement to the property and parking lot is located on the east side of 120th Street.
Management Objectives
The Lundy Pond Wildlife Area is managed to provide opportunities for public hunting, trapping, wildlife observation and other nature-based outdoor recreation. Management objectives aim to maintain an open grassland community through prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical control of woody species and limited haying and grazing. Populations of invasive species are controlled or eliminated by cutting, pulling, burning, herbicide treatment and/or bio-control.
