Galbraith Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area

Galbraith Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area is a 139-acre property located in Barron County. The Vermillion River with a cattail and sedge marsh runs through the property. Adjacent grass fields with ponds and mixed hardwood forest provide pheasant, ruffed grouse, squirrels, and deer habitat. Find it east of Cumberland, 3 miles on Highway 48 then south 2 miles on 10th Street. The property is on the right.

Hiking through this property you will find plenty of wildlife signs and great spots to hunt deer, turkey, pheasant, grouse, small game, etc. The open fields and ponds provide an excellent opportunity to view wildlife. This wildlife area is perfect for any person who likes to recreate in a rural area, but still be within a short drive of town.

Management Objectives

The property was purchased through the Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area program. Ponds were dug and prairie grasses were planted on the adjacent fields. These fields are periodically burned and/or mowed to maintain waterfowl and upland bird nesting habitat.
