Barker Creek Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area is a 74-acre property of predominantly shrub and sedge/cattail marsh with surrounding grass fields and scattered areas of aspen. Find it by going north of Barron in Barron County on Highway 25 for 3 miles. Turn east on 17th Avenue and go 2.25 miles. The property is on the north side of the road.

This property is only a few miles from the Rice Lake exit on Hwy 53. There are great opportunities to hunt (deer, pheasant, grouse, turkey and more), trap and do some wildlife viewing or birding.

Management Objectives

This property was purchased through the Extensive Wildlife Habitat Area (EWHA) program for waterfowl management. Prairie grasses are planted on the adjacent fields, which are periodically burned and/or mowed to maintain waterfowl and upland bird nesting habitat. A few ponds were also dug to improve waterfowl habitat.
