Princeton Lock and Dam is one of several DNR properties included in the Upper Fox River Public Access group of properties along the Upper Fox River.

This property is well known by fishermen for walleye, catfish, white bass, and bluegills. The department maintains parking areas off Oxbow Trail (the south side of the Upper Fox River) and off Lock Road (the north side of the Upper Fox River).

The Lock Road site offers two no-fee boat launches (one above and one below the dam). There are two large parking areas and an ADA-compliant pathway that goes over the former lock channel to a fishing pier on the Upper Fox River. A portable restroom is kept on-site during the spring and summer months for use by the public.

The Oxbow Trail site parking area offers a spacious parking area and a foot trail (not ADA compliant), which goes down to the river. Fishing can occur from either above or below the dam from the shoreline. There are no boat launches or fishing piers offered at this site.

Location/Directions

The Princeton Lock and Dam is located 2 miles southwest of Princeton, Wisconsin. The Lock Road site is 2 miles southwest of Princeton on Lock Road south of State Highway 23. The Oxbow Trail site is 3 miles southwest of Princeton on Oxbow Trail off County Highway T.

Note: On Upper Fox River Public Access properties, there is walk-in access only: no motorized vehicles, no open fires (campfires), and no camping. These rules are intended to preserve the historic and scenic qualities of the river and area.

Objective

The Upper Fox River Public Access properties are managed to protect and enhance the natural resources associated with the Fox River while providing river access, boat access and fishing opportunities.
