DNR Fisheries Areas

Hulburt Creek Fishery Area includes a class 1 brook trout stream and class 2 brown trout stream, significant wetland areas, some upland southern hardwoods, and natural area. Hulburt Creek is a codified Exceptional Resource Waters (ERW). The fishery area is a unique cold water ecosystem in southwest Wisconsin that includes Tamaracks, massive White Pines, sandstone outcroppings and waterfall, along with remnant Ice Age fauna in the glens.

Location/Directions

Hulburt Creek Fishery Area starts at the State Hwy 12 bridge in Wisconsin Dells, Sauk County (T 13N, R 6E, section 9) and proceeds upstream to headwater springs in Juneau County (T 14N, R 6E, section 31).

The fishing easement areas are basically restricted to fishing and associated activities only; the fee title lands may be used as shown below:

Objective

Hulbert Creek Fishery Area is managed to protect this important class 1 brook trout fishery, manage the trout fishery as only a class 1 brook trout fishery, provide public access, improve unique associated bottomland and upland environment, provide for hunting opportunities, and accommodate other compatible outdoor recreational use.
