Model Zoning Ordinance
A new standard model floodplain ordinance went into effect on April 8, 2022. This model should be used by any community amending or adopting a floodplain ordinance after that date.

Model Zoning Process and Checklist
A step-by-step guide is available to help describe the process to adopt a floodplain zoning ordinance. A timetable is also available to illustrate the timeline and process for ordinance adoptions relation to Letter of Final Determinations (LFDs).
The floodplain ordinance checklist is available to help zoning administrators ensure that their specific ordinances aligns with the floodplain model ordinance. An editable Microsoft Word format is available upon request, please contact DNR Floodplains. We ask administrators to provide this checklist to DNR staff whenever ordinance reviews are needed to help streamline the review process.
